We can use Photoshop also for creating the logos. But the problem is that we could not control the quality for printing either for web on a large scale. Its better to design the logo in any vector based software i.e. Illustrator or Corel etc...

all designers are going to illustrator; because for visual identity you are using logos for a massive types of media and sizes. you go to print your logo on pen with size3mmX3mm and on billboards with size10 m X5 m. so you need a scalable format like vector art.

Because Illustrator helps us in preserving the quality of the logo as its a vector based software.

Simply Photoshop "bitmap" image processing and manipulation program while Illustrator is a vector-based postscript drawing program.

The definition are as below:

Adobe Photoshop

PS is a "bitmap" image processing and manipulation program. It's ideally suited for creating, modifying and outputting digital images of a photographic nature, which share a common fundamental structure: pixels in a bitmap. Simplified, but primary operations would be:Fundamental difference: Photoshop manipulates individual color pixels within a fixed bitmap

Adobe Illustrator

Illustrator is a vector-based postscript drawing program. It functions by generating curved paths (Bezier curves) connected by modifiable anchor points. These anchors, with their handles are ultimately editable, and never "leave" the structure of the file. A vector based drawing program creates the various elements of the image as individual vector objects which retain their characteristics and do not become part of a "bitmap". Fundamental difference: Illustrator generates "vector objects" which are not part of a "bitmap"

Illustrator is vector base program so we play easily with lines to create different shapes and object, no matter what size of the log can control the resolution and quality but photo shop is bitmap base program so we cannot create logos in photo shop. better use illustrator

Adobe Photoshop is the best software in the market for photo editing, photo manipulation and RAW image editing. Photoshop CC2014 even supports3D printing as well. It is their flagship product.

Adobe Illustrator is one fo the leading options for working with sketches and print design. It is by far the best software in the market for working with vector images. It complements print designers who use Adobe Indesign.

Photoshop proprietary format is called PSD and it supports PDFs as well, while Illustrator supports EPS and AI (its proprietary format). According to best practices, when you want to design a logo it is better to design it as a vector image.

Adobe Illustrator is better because its pen tool used for sketching, cutouts and drawing has more options compared to the pen tool in Photoshop. AI pen tool offers more precision.

When you are designing a logo it is better to work with CMYK swatches rather than RGB and Illustrator has a very good engine for that. It takes inspiration from another Adobe product called Indesign (the choice for print design). It supports many features suited forprinting press and more options for PANTONE colors than the other two.

Because you are working with vector images, Illustrator has more options for working with brushes as well. These are the reasons why Adobe Illustrator CS6 or CC should be used to design logos.

Make sure you select CMYK colors set at a minimum of300 dpi.

What would you say?

We can use photoshop for logo designing but you have use shape tools,on other hand it will  consume time in measuring, selecting layer, grouping, strokes etc. and lot of confusion.

Illustrator is more comfort in drawing, selection especially in measuring, applying strokes, more space to work (artboards), saving to different file format and portability etc.
