Yes, I completely agree with it as employees are the biggest asset for every company. Most assets get less worthy with time (like machinery, buildings,  tools, ....), but human resources become more valuable with time due to the development  their experience, skills, efficiency,  proficiency, effectiveness and knowledge.

Companies, therefore,  have to keep focusing on the development of their employees by:

- Make sure of the right person on the right place

- Defining an annual development program for each employee depending on the job requirement.

- Identify hidden skills, for example employees with managerial/ leadership skills, and set a plan to develop it

- Based on the job description of every position in the company, identify the required skills for this job, match it with the person who has that job and set plan to develop the missing skills (or change the person)

In my experience as an employee who was given the chance to develop tremendously and excel I would totally agree with your statement. If you are investing in value for time then employee development is most certainly a successful investment. Identifying employees who already excelling in their normal tasks they should be recognised and given the opportunity to develop further. Strategies to use:

- challenging tasks

- give them sole responsibility for projects

- make them a point of contact

- train them further depending what your requirement as a business is

- give them opportunities to explore different departments via job shadowing

- test their management or leadership skills by delegating the responsibility of a team on them

- ask other colleagues about their views (you'd be surprised what you are told)

- recognition and praise

- send them away for as a rep for a business

- invite them to meetings

- ask for summary reports testing their evaluation methods

- enforce a decision making task on them

There are many many more ways such as incentives, group discussions, outings etc...

The more you input into their development the more you get out.

Employees are fresh clay, you mould them shape them and design them into the best design possible.

Absolutely true statement. Companies should periodically do the SWOT analysis of employees, and create/update training plans for employees to overcome their weaknesses and nurture their strengths further. Growing skills of employees is important, as there will be people leaving and you need to have others to fill in their shoes.

Fully agree with the aforesaid mentioned statement.

The biggest in house opportunity available is by allowing enough space to all to voice their opinion, evaluate, select the best with consensus and by involving all in the process for learning and developing.

Apart from this specialized programs can be organized depending upon the need for adding values to individual to face planned challenges or for refreshing.

By not investing in your employees you will be setting up your business to fail. Its all about the ROI by continously developing your employees and allowing them to grow will enable a culture that they want to be part of, good talent management and development is essential to any business.

So I agree with your statement.

Development is an Ongoing Process. We have developed from no identity to Me or I . We have developed manifolds from our start, so it should go on. But, at what cost are we developing & what are we developing for employees to remain happy & contended - For this there are Other tools along with Material benefits which have to be planned . Because all said & done , end of the day we are just running for benefits knowing well that these are gains & not developing us further . We, need development of employees that they are happy and contended .

Absolutely, I have worked for various companies in UK and my last employer I would say has invested a lot in me to develop and improve my knowledge and skills so that i can perform better and deliver outstanding results.

If you know any business not performing well its because they have a weak internal competance (human resource) how ever other factor may vary. Most business excel because of their internal competence, a right set of people with right skills and knowledge are determined to achieve success for any business in short or long term.

Definitely, organizations exist in commercial basis and to have edge over competitors organizations build their competencies via developmental plans. The development plan are made in the light of appraisals and rating and then to plan their rotational and learning needs so that employee are build for future assignments and positions.

Employee development is of utmost importance to any organization. A company with a sound employee development program usually becomes an employees favorite.

The employment development plan should be communicated clearly to the employee from the very beginning and it should be aligned with the goals and strategic direction of the company so that the employee clearly knows what he/she is contributing to the company. A clear employee development plan will keep the employee motivated as well and ensure that the organization has invested time, energy and money in helping him advance in his career as well. This in turn would result in loyalty and goodwill to the company
