Recruitment involves functions like screening resumes, shortlisting resumes, managing interview with HR and the technical panel, ensuring the offer reaches the selected candidate and follow up till the date of joining.

Recruiter reports to Hiring Manager in a typical set-up. A recruiter may work directly with an organization as an employee or may be employed with a Recruitment / Placement consultancy.

A Recruiter may work on operational level recruitment whereas the Hiring Manager works at decision level on a broader level and not just operational level.

Headhunter is recruiter who recruits senior level or candidates with niche technologies. The recruitment here happens for skills not available easily or openly. Typically Headhunter service is an outsourced work.

Interesting question Fida!

A recruiter is someone hired by a company to fill all positions for that company. The recruiter handles the complete recruiting cycle for the company (attracting, sourcing, screening, interviewing and offering). The last two stages are completed in close liaison with the hiring manager. The recruiter may use headhunting skills (thorough research, networking, diligent targeting, etc.) to close certain senior level or unique/ new positions within a company.

A headhunter is also called an executive recruiter. They either work independently or as part of a recruitment agency. These highly skilled recruiters work with clients (i.e. companies) to source highly skilled, senior level or C-suite talent. They work closely with the client company and are involved at every stage of the hiring process to identify ideal talent for assigned positions.

A hiring manager is the final decision maker. Hence the importance of a recruiter or headhunter and hiring manager being aligned with each other when identifying talent for a particular position.

Recruiter is one who is responsible to get the position details from heads, source the candidates via appropriate strategies, conduct initial interviews and then recommend the most suitable candidate to next level.

Hiring Manager could be the final authority or one position up then recruiter. He then finalized the candidate in consultation with technical head. Or, further recommending to top management.

On the other hand, head hunters are recruitment agency or someone with senior position or consultant who do top level searching.
