For broad Casting and motion graphics, I prefer C4D.
For Architectural use, I prefer 3D Studio Max.
Although, both are the best software but every software has the specialty in a single or more fields.

Well I haven't used cinema 4d much but I think 3ds max is better but cinema 4d is much easier, as a modeller I prefer 3ds max, cinema 4d is better for motion graphics most of the TV commercials is done by cinema 4d but it doesn't mean that 3ds max is not good for motion graphics it is also great, If you want to create interiors and exteriors designs, 3d models like cars, characters, etc then I prefer 3ds max, for rigging, facial expressions and animation 3ds max is great but it is very hard and I think that cinema 4d is easier for rigging anything characters or cars, and animation.

3DS Max has it's huge advantages, so many plugins. User friendly.

C4D is good for motion graphics.

I do not think that we can treat the subject in that way, both are good, it depends on the way that u will use them, both give good results when it's about modeling and rendering, so just try to choose one of them and work on it hard to reach a good level.

They are all infinite in terms of functionality.
In other words you can achieve virtually anything with any of those.
The quality of output has everything to do with you and not the program.
I'd recommend choosing the one that the industry you want to get into uses.
If you wanna get into VFX and film go maya.
If you want to eventually end up in games or product/architectual viz go with max.
If you just wanna do it as a hobby for your own enjoyment go blender.
Also consider user support.
There are THOUSANDS of tutorials and full length learning videos for max and maya.
Not so much for C4D and blender.
You seem to be a beginner so your going to want the tutorials your watching to be using the same software.
I'm not a pro at CG by any means, but i'm far enough along to see how the software really doesn't matter much.
The pros get a little annoyed when noobs ask "which software?!" because its kinda like asking "what kind of paint brushes should i get?!" painting is painting.
Just focus on learning to paint and not what brush to use.
But I understand at first when you look at how much time you'll be investing in the learning a tool you want to make the right choice.
There CERTAINLY is not a BEST one though.
Its all just a matter of choice.
Depends on the artist.

actually i used both, C4D is awesome in motion graphic and has a very fast rendering with greate quality and mograph tools is really greate for fast and complex animation.
3D max is the best for arch and vfx and and heavy modeling and animation.
finally the both is greate, and that return what you need to do.
