Can MENA region initiate an ambitious and effective short and long term strategy in the area of alternative energy?

Considering the question we have to remember that the MENA area is the largest exporter of oil and natural gas at incredibly cheap prices (50 per barrel) these products are being used to generate electricity.

I see the answer to your question being tied to the price of oil and natural gas, put simply yes of course the mena area can operationalize an effective strategy, however is it wise considering the natural resources that are currently being used.
