The main disadvantage is that it is difficult to get new employees hired. It is a bad practice adopted when a full takeover is effective and the new management do not want to retain any of the employees. The procedure will attract legal deputes and delay in getting the terminal benefits.
Please do not fire people. Instead accept the fault of wrong selection and mutually agree to employee's potential and the job role mismatch. Parting should be with good note so that tomorrow if there is a new position matching the future developed potential of that person or referred people then there should be no hesitation at either end. Good parting is also a source of spreading good image about the employer for future requirements.
Handling parting directly is more advantageous as the ammunition used will be under self control to use it more effectively and judiciously.
