In the planning process How does Tactical plans differ from Strategic Plans?

Strategic planning is long term planning whereas the tactical planning is short term and specific to the task in hand.

Strategic plans are long-term plans & more comprehensive to work as a

whole, which is designed to build upon the long-term approach & is the identification

of all kinds of goals required to accurately work on long-term...

While

technically plans are operational plans & rely on inventory all work

on the project resource requirements of various kinds as well as draw a plan

for each management unit in action..

Tactical plans are to mitigate problems and strategy are to prevent and generate business. One is short term and other is long term. In planning process, working for the operations to be streamlined is strategy and preventing operations during processing is tactical. 

Strategic plan - a large-scale, long-term plan that ensures victory, a tactical plan specifies exactly who, what and where should deliver and what he should do.

I like all the answers here, I'd say that strategic plans define long term goals and approaches, while tactical plans are for immediate objectives.

Tactical plans related to middle management to represent a link between top management and executives.Strategic plan are related top management to handle the main objectives and transfer vision to the lower levels

Tactical plans are basically the initiatives taken to achieve the Strategic Objectives. They are time-bound projects.
