yes actually you can save in .doc and .docx format using the libre office in linux.
Creating Ms-Word Document in a Linux environment is possible,with the help of build-in package called Libra-office,some of the Linux flavors perhaps dont have Libra-office by default then you might need install the package(Libra-office) manually,anyhow coming back to your question.
suppose if you already have Libra-office package installed,then open the (Libra office Writer).
steps to save Document in Ms-word format.
1) open the Libra office writer.
2)create a new file by clicking File New Menu>then Click Text Document .
3)create/type/add text or image with the help of keyboard.
This is how you can save your file in ms-word format.
4)go to file menu >Click on Save or Ctrl+s>window will pop-up,
5)Provide Name ,in the name field which is above/left hand side.(First Document file)
6)pop-up widows contain (All-format Option, Scroll Box)Just above the save button.
