If any delay to any of the activities on the critical path occurs, the whole project will be delayed unless the company takes action and makes other changes to bring the project back on track. The company can choose to compress schedule and avail additional resources if necessary without the need to inform the customer.

However, in huge projects, customers usually assign a representative to be part of the project management team which allow them to be aware of progress.

I guess you should try at first with option1. Compress schedule 

then option2.Inform customer if the delay still remaining.

 

 

If there is a delay in any of the activities under the critical path, there will be a delay of the project deliverables.

Most of the times, if such delay is occurred, project acceleration or re-sequencing is done in order to achieve the deadlines.

A critical path diagram should be constantly updated with actual information when the project progresses in order to refine the activity length/project duration predictions.

Always inform the customer, but first see what you can do with the schedule, so you can inform the customer , because he will ask you what can be done about it!

The best way to slove this problem is to compress the schedule and add some resources if possible inspite of this if the work is not back on track then comes the reputation its better to inform the customer if thers no representative of his in your firm ..... but have to put efforts to get back on track n informing should be the last option

This option should be taken as an immediate first step to follow compare with other options.
