Prioritizing tasks is the key.
There are several tools you can use to keep organized and to make sure all tasks are completed.
Depends on the task but the below methods are useful:1.
Write down what you need to remember.
This takes the pressure of the brain and you can refer to it straight away.
Make sure that you have understood what is expected from you for each task.2, Use folders labelled with specific tasks you need to complete.
E.g.
you could have a folder for photocopying, another for filing etc.3.
Group similar tasks together - if you need to make calls, do these altogether.
Write down what you need to achieve or what info you need from each call.
This way you get all the details in one call without having to make another call because of missed info.4.
Use Outlook 'reminder' tool for tasks or meetings.
Do the tasks when the reminder notice pops up on your screen.
Don't 'snooze' as there will be always something to get in the way.5.
You can also use your mobile (instead of Outlook) for reminders if you prefer.6.
Tick off the tasks that you have completed - it really gives a good feeling and encourages you to carry on with the other tasks.7.
If task is big, break it down into small steps or stages.8.
Keep your boss informed of tasks you have completed.9.
Keep your boss informed of the progress of a task if it has not been completed yet.
This shows your boss that you are working on it and have not forgotten it.10.
Remember that organizing, prioritizing and getting tasks done is a learning curve.
You will do many things well, but there will also be the task where you need help, ask if you need help.
