Yes, I too do endorse this notion, but apart from7 P's of marketing mix their are other factors too which helps in successful positioning of your product in the market, such as, SWOT analysis, PEST analysis, porters five forces, etc. !!!

The objective of positioning should be position itself in customers and prospect mind.

MARKETING has changed its course and became WARKETING  so marketing mix (7Ps) alone is not sufficient enough to create positioning. In this cut throat competitive warket alternative approach should be adopted like compass model and STP analysis.

COMPASS MODEL:              N- NEEDS    

                                                  W- WANTS     

                                                  S- SOCIAL(CULTURAL)

                                                  E- EDUCATION(CUSTOMER EDUCATION)

Marketing Mix is the main tool to define and create Value Proposition of course for suitable positioning, but after identifying your segment and know where you would target them.

I agree that the Marketing mix helps, however the4P's are out of Date now, a the4E's are in

  • Product has become Experience
  • Place has become Everyplace
  • Price has become Exchange
  •  Promotion has become Evangelism
