What is an SPT and does it give you enough information about the soil condition? what else to do?

thank you for the answers, Standard Penetration Test. I prefer the continuous penetration tests but they are only suitable for sand , clay , peat, soft soils, with the friction coefficient it gives you a better view of the soil. For rocky soils we use the SPT's and it gives you a basic indication of the soil in combination with a boring you can determine correctly what the soil is and if it is suitable as a foundation and to what loads.

Standard Penetration Test.

It's a very good test of soil condition analysis in the Geotechnical Engineering.

The standard penetration test (SPT) is an in-situ dynamic penetration test designed to provide information on the geotechnical engineering properties of soil.
