When a complaint is officially communicated before the Management it becomes a grievance. The realities and truth inside a grievance result in attitude, perception and behavior of an employee in the following ways:
1. Not very happy at work2. Feel frustrated 3. Show behavioral indifference 4. discontent5. Morale upset 6. Show lack of interest in activities and participation7. Disobedience 8. Poor outcome and efficiency9.Lagging at work and efficiency reduction10. Start spreading bad messages and resolution.
Grievance handling must concentrate on all these aspects and their possibilities before arriving at right solution. First it should be properly heard and attended to. Then Request a time to solve the issue. Make sure that his attitude at work is not changing. Closely observe him and frequently contact with him with oral communication. Engage with him some important works to make him sure that you have directly or indirectly accepted his complaint to make a good solution. Make sure that genuine grievances are adequately re-dressed and time bound. Keep in mind that all grievances cannot be fully resolved and the solution should not harm anyone unnecessarily and create another problem. Protect all human rights with due respect and without hesitation and should not create a feeling of discrimination in any nature. For non-repetition of such incidences please make effective policy changes and notification so as to bring the same in the category of disciplinary function.
Employees encounter several kind of problems. These problems some times become grievances at workplace. Some of the grievances need prompt handling. You need to be attentive while listen the grievance and acknowledge. Gather the correct information from your own sources. Once you find the real cause of the problem which becomes grievance, eliminate it once for all. Otherwise it will come back to you in future. Fix the solution on permanent basis. Once you arrive at the decision, communicate it. Make sure it should be clear in the minds of all those concerned. Some of the employees may not be agreeable but they need to understand management point of view.
