The biggest difference between a data mart and a data warehouse https://www.mighty.digital/blog/data-warehouse-vs-data-mart-know-the-difference is the amount of information they hold. A data mart holds smaller amounts of data than a data warehouse, while a data warehouse stores much larger datasets. Data marts also store a specific subject area. Knowing the difference between a data mart and a data warehouse can help you choose which is right for your company.

Warehouse:

Holds multiple subject areas

Holds very detailed information

Works to integrate all data sources

Does not necessarily use a dimensional model but feeds dimensional models.

Data Mart

Often holds only one subject area- for example, Finance, or Sales

May hold more summarised data (although many hold full detail)

Concentrates on integrating information from a given subject area or set of source systems

Is built focused on a dimensional model using a star schema
