Sales is just a part of Marketing. Sales Executive's major objective would be to sell the company's where as a Marketing executive's major objective would be to promote the company's products and services in such a way that they sell themselves. Marketing executive may use methods like Advertising, PR, Promotion, etc where as a sales executive uses methods like interpersonal communication, persuasion, etc. Both have their own place and have their own importance
