I am used to Plan first for difficult decision as below points

02:  How it will be managed in difficult situation

03:  Effecting points

04:  Cost

05:  Budget

06:  Bottle Neck of Project

06:  Result

What will be the benefits and opportunities in either short term or long term due to taking the risk of this tough decision?

What are the consequences of my decision (the goods and the bads) and will I be able to handle them and live with it.  And is it the right decision to take in the right time?

 

And of course will this decision make me do something against my principles and beliefs? If yes then I will never do it

First I ask to myself a big 'WHY'?. If i'm convinced than my next question will be 'WHAT' will happen if do or don't do. If I proceed with the decision than I'll analyse what will be the cost, time and other impacts on that. Finally I will plan myself 'HOW' to do it and act.

I agree with all answers. Weighing out pros and cons, looking at long term and short term outcomes, asking how will this affect yourself personally and what good is it doing for company or organization, and always look for greater good. Will it upset anyone? How will it affect the team? Should you involve subordinates in making this decision?  And plain research. Sometimes you might need to gather all the information to make sure you've made the right choice. Maybe asking your mentor or higher management?

 

Confidence. Make sure you are confident with your decision after making it. Good luck.

I usually think of them long term consequences when I am making a big decision at WORK. I usually try in pull in all the stakeholders who will be affected by the decision and try to gets their ideas on the decision. Then come up with the best possible solution.
