What air monitoring needs to be performed prior to entering a confined space?

Ensure entry person can apply job in safe way 

Gas testing must be done prior to enter  to make sure the

safe oxygen level 

Poisson Gas 

Explosive Gas  

Confined space environment could be contaminated by poisonous gases, excessive or deficiency of oxygen level, flammable gases like methane should be identified before entering in the confined space. some gases which have more atomic weight than air which could be stick with wall or corner of confined space and can be missed being identified during gas testing, to prevent this situation air blowing should be done in confined space and then only gas monitoring has taken place.

Oxygen percentage to be checked. Also the Confined space needs to be verified for Toxic gases like H2S, Other hydrocarbons.

Explosivity of the Confined space entry needs to checked.

Oxygen percentage and LEL monitoring if there is any flamable substance stored inside the vessel or if there is any possibility of flamable substance ingress in the confined space during the entry. 

H2S , CO , CO2  tests are  very important  before entering any confined spaces .
