It has positive impact if implemented properly. Now a days in most of the organizations, I have seen the certificates hanging without any usage. Mostly the demand in the market is just for certification. Very few organizations are willing to implement all the stages of9001. They just want the stamp to be used.

ISO9000 is one of the most widely recognized standards issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). A federation of national standards bodies from more than100 different countries, ISO promotes growth of manufacturing and trade through generic standards. In1992 only300 U.S. firms were ISO9000 certified, compared to more than30,000 today — a number that’s expected to grow20% annually.

Why the rush to register? Three main reasons:

  1. Customer pressure.
  2. Competitive advantage.
  3. Improved internal operations.

ISO9000 helps businesses develop a quality management system to consistently produce and deliver quality goods or services. First embraced by manufacturers, the standard now is being adopted by service organizations.

Registration is voluntary, but it’s often a prerequisite for doing business overseas, especially in Europe. There also is growing domestic pressure: Large U.S. firms, such as GM, have become certified and require suppliers to follow suit.

Why bother?

Granted, ISO9000 certification can be costly and time consuming. Yet it offers many benefits.

Boosting credibility. Relationships with customers and suppliers often take years to develop. Adhering to ISO9000 standards can help compress the cycle. It gives you a seal of approval, indicating to partners that you have a quality-assurance system in place. Indeed, companies with as few as one or two employees can receive certification.

Managing growth. ISO9000 gives you a framework to manage increasing sales and customer demand. It can have a profound impact on your firm by helping you:

  • Find and correct recurring problems that might cause customers to stray.
  • Capture and measure improvement gains.
  • Save time when training new employees.
  • Save time by streamlining procedures.
  • Communicate management expectations more clearly.

For smaller companies, registration typically takes12 to18 months. Costs vary considerably: Once you factor in registrars, consultants, training and staff time, the total bill can run anywhere from $25,000 to north of $200,000.

Good news: Certification costs are tax deductible.

Better news: Many companies recoup registration costs within the first year.

The ISO  family of quality management systems standards is designed to help organizations ensure that they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders while meeting statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product.[1] ISO9000 deals with the fundamentals of quality management systems,[2] including the eight management principles upon which the family of standards is based.[2][3] ISO9001 deals with the requirements that organizations wishing to meet the standard must fulfill.[4]

Third-party certification bodies provide independent confirmation that organizations meet the requirements of ISO9001. Over one million organizations worldwide[5] are independently certified, making ISO9001 one of the most widely used management tools in the world today. Despite widespread use, the ISO certification process has been criticized[6][7] as being wasteful and not being useful for all organizations.

I see the recognition standards and the credibility that might impact the growth but the rest depends on the practices of every organization.

I noticed that there are many companies who put allot of efforts to get the certification, but after that, nobody cares. It seems that companies look at it as a nice symbol to have on the footer of their letters.

To associate with many Blue-chip establishments, this certification happens to be the Cross Bar. We can enter into Vendor Agreement to make ourselves qualify for placing our quotes this ISO certification helps a lot and one of the pre requisites.  Once you enter into a vendor agreement, it is the start of a long term  business relationship and continued till the service fall short of the prescribed standards and expectations of the Client.
