I can't force myself to write when I don't feel like it so I could never stick to a schedule.

Writing and schedules are not an ideal match.

However, if writing is your main salary this may not be avoided.  (However, there could be room within schedules to really write that article on demand in that moment when you get in that creative writing zone).  Pressure can bring out high quality work if controlled creatively.  It is when panic sets in (where doubt takes over) that can ruin taking that opportunity to work to a timeline.

I like to write when I feel like it - as a creative person, this is generally nearly all the time!  I find my work flows, I feel freer to try new things with my work and I get to learn more about myself and what I need to learn about my writing.

It all depends....................

If writing is a profession with you and you have deadlines to meet, then you can't go by your mood swings.............the pay cheque may be delayed if you do. If you write for leisure, you can afford to take it easy. Getting down to writing as a schedule certainly helps.

I don't rely on my mood.  I try my best to write down ideas even if I don't feel like it.
