It depends.
Poetry can be a personal creative tool. So when I have used poetry in my work it can contain personal experiences.
Some creative stories have contained elements from my personal life and this has helped to bring the story more to life.
Some health articles have largely personal aspects of my life, which needs to be here as it helps those readers understand that I know what they are experiencing and not just talking words and giving empty advice.
So the personal touch has its place in my writing.
No matter how hard you try to keep your personal life out of your writing......some part of your life certainly creeps in. Writing is a kind of an ego trip if you like. Taking a position for or against anything in your writing is writing about your life.
I try to separate my personal life from the stories I write. However, my style of writing shows my own character.
I don't think it's possible to separate if we're talking about poetry, maybe a little is possible in literature and separation is definite in reporting one's life has nothing to do with it.
I rather use experience in my story, either mine, or others, it is how to comprehend the psychology of people as well, you need them to improve quality of your story specially if your main protagonist or antagonist need background story since both are round characters not just statics
I prefer to set personal life apart from my writing, I always find it more difficult to write if it was personal.
