yes i support it in middle east, as surprisingly many have years of experience and education but no knowledge stuck to their head, also many were found buying degrees from couple of countries, one last thing many found filling a title but not the job :)

There are people who are better speakers than writers.
And the reverse is also true.
For those who are better writers than speakers, written questions to answer in writing may be beneficial since they'll better be able to express themselves.
Using both methods can give a better picture of the candidate than just one.

I think the writing interview is the best way to explain a complex process that requires drawing (such as Value Stream Mapping of an example process that you wanted to show them!) or an example of a Root-Cause-Analysis etc. Like one of the above participants said, if they are good at speaking vs. writing, it may be not in favor of them.  So, it depends on the individuals capabilities of being a good speaker or a good writer.  If you as a candidate possess both, good for you.

Yes, the senior experienced candidate may answer by writing to thoroughly examine their capability.

non senior candidates deserve good oral interaction

Absolutely, that is more than important in order to know more about the candidates

Written  question will not be the only way to help the wright selection of candidates , the most professional way is face to face and all questions and answered should be written and documented during the interview process   , we are human we still need to use our common sence as well . thanks

In my opinion the best thing is to not depend on a sole method, some people are good researchers with many information and can speak brilliantly but cannot do much on ground, while some are not very good at marketing for themselves however they are really good practically and have vast knowledge. so you might need to interview them face to face, have them answer some quastion in writing, get reference checks from previous employers, or even assessment centers.

No I do not support this as we are all matured enough to work with systems like Desktops and Laptops. May where there is lack of infrastructure, it could be an option. otherwise I suggest it should be online/digital.
