Like "Love", Quality is another most used but lesser understood word. One of the reasons behind it ,is sometimes a confusing term or definition. An example is the difference between QA and QC. Just see below the definitions of Quality, QC and QA as defined by ISO. To the new entrants it may appear just inexplicable. I think It would be beneficial ,if some easily understood definition is provided here.
By ISO:
QUALITY – Degree to which a set of inherent characteristics fulfils requirements [ISO9000:2005 -3.1.1]. QUALITY ASSURANCE – Part of quality management focused on providing confidence that quality requirements will be fulfilled [ISO9000:2005 -3.2.11]. QUALITY CONTROL – Part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality requirements [ISO9000:2005 -3.2.10]. [ISO9000:2005 -3.2.12] QUALITY ASSURNACE SYSTEM (QAS) – A management system to direct and control SLPS with regard to quality
Quality control- Measures taken to maintain well functioning of fleet , maintenance, scheduling and production line etc
Quality Assurance - Ensuring all the measures are well done , no violation of any laws and identify flaws in any departments and also products
Quality Assurance is process oriented and focuses on defect prevention, while quality control is product oriented and focuses on defect identification.
QC is responsible for checking Controls are in place during the processing phase, while QA is responsible for checking the output (after the process is complete) and ensure it is as required in terms of quality.
QA Iis provide the confidance to fullfil the quality requirment and this is proactive process.
QC- Fullfil the quality requriments and this is reactive process
QC is product oriented while QA is Process oriented: that is, QA ensures a capable process for achieving a quality product
QAULITY CONTROL- The process for inspections for all activity and to stop and give immediate notifications/report for any works that are non-confirming.
QAULITY ASSURANCE- Ensuring projects are in compliance with policies and standards to meet all required guidelines & regulations. all aspects related to quality control are planned, resourced, performed, controlled, managed and documented.
QC produces work to an agreed quality standard,
QA confirms that the standard has been observed.
Quality assurance consists of that “part of quality management focused on providing confidence that quality requirements will be fulfilled.” The confidence provided by quality assurance is twofold—internally to management and externally to customers, government agencies, regulators, certifiers, and third parties. Quality control is that “part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality requirements.” While quality assurance relates to how a process is performed or how a product is made, quality control is more the inspection aspect of quality management.
QA is quality checking during process in line and QC is quality checking/testing after finish product.
QC is quality control while QA is quality asurance
Quality control is measures put in place to ensure that standard set is what is prfoduced while Quality assurance is confirmation that what is required will be produced.
