If you have Windows Vista or Windows7, there are two methods to determine whether you are running a32-bit or a64-bit version. If one does not work, try the other.
Method1: View System window in Control Panel
Click Start, type system in the search box, and then click System in the Control Panel list.
The operating system is displayed as follows:
For a64-bit version operating system: 64-bit Operating System appears for the System type under System.
For a32-bit version operating system: 32-bit Operating System appears for the System type under System.
Method2: View System Information window
Click Start, type system in the search box, and then click System Information in the Programs list.
When System Summary is selected in the navigation pane, the operating system is displayed as follows:
For a64-bit version operating system: X64-based PC appears for the System Type under Item.
For a32-bit version operating system: X86-based PC appears for the System Type under Item.

Type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
Click the General tab. The operating system is displayed as follows:
For a64-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version < Year> appears under System.
For a32-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional Version < Year> appears under System.
Method2: View System Information window
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type winmsd.exe, and then click OK.
When System Summary is selected in the navigation pane, locate Processor under Item in the details pane. Note the value.
If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with x86, the computer is running a32-bit version of Windows.
If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with ia64 or AMD64, the computer is running a64-bit version of Windows.
Right click my computer ... and then to properties ....
there you get the details of the OS.
you will get this information from system's properties
computer>properties(right click on computer>properties)
or start>control Panel>System
You right click on the MyComputer icon and then go to properties option to see the general information about the computer, where you will see whether it's a32 bit or64 bit.

Right Click on Computer and then go to the properties.. This is the quickest way to see your operating system version.
-Right click on my computer
-Properties
a window will pop up to view all system properties including if the OS version is32 or64 bit
Can be identified by following ways
1. Right click on my computer and click on properties
2.In Run command or on Dos prompt, type control system
3. Windows Logo button + Pause break
Right click on Computer (My Computer) select 'Property' option, in system information you will get whether it is32 bit or64 bit.
