cc : cubic centimeter is a unit to measure the capacity of the engine and technical we called this capacity :the displacement volume or stroke/swept volume and in simple words the volume of all cylinders when the piston move from top dead center(TDC/TC) to bottom dead center(BDC/BC) or oppsite to make a stroke(from this reason we called this volume strock volume

*reciprocating engines*

see this photos

photo1: you can see the swept volume its start from TDC and end in BDC

and up this zone (swept volume)0 you can see the clearance volume or

combustion chamber:

(zone to burn the fuel and produce the thermal energy /gas pressure force and then this energy acting on mechanical parts to move the car that means we convert the heat energy to mechanical energy)0

SWEPT VOLUME

PHOTO2: test your self and try to detect the swept volume and TDC AND BDC

photo3-you can see the swept volume and TDC ,BDC AND also clearance volume /combustion chamber

finally :this video explain the stroke volume in simple

my advice :try to understand the idea because there is a many units to measure the capacity of engine and cc its international unit

cubic centimeter, it is the total volume of the all cylinders

it is the Displacement volume of a cylinder(in case of single cylinder engine). In other words it is the volume of the piston travel from TDC to BDC. It does not includes the clearance volume or the volume of the combustion chamber.
