Companies usually issue a dress code for employees who doesn't have a fixed uniform (admins, office staff, sales officers, etc) for a better company image. You are working in their organization therefore you are carrying their image with you whether you are just inside the office or outside the office meeting some clients. It is best to be dressed properly and follow a guideline specially if you are working in a multicultural environment. Arab countries have a much more conservative approach when it comes to dress codes. Mainly, dress codes are put in order to maintain professionalism and the image of the company.

Other companies will eliminate conflicts arising from dress codes by prescribing uniforms to their employees.

This is because the definition of normal for some people is different from others.

What if a person wears soccer clothes to work thinking it is normal? People would assume he is a soccer player but not a competent, knowledgeable employee in any technical field (be it business, statistics, IT...etc). They could also assume that he came to visit a friend. :P

For that, companies control the types of clothes an employee must wear.
