It is the organized preparation of whatever is going to be taught in schools at a given time in a given year. They are made into official documents, as guides for teachers, and made obligatory by provincial and territorial departments.

My view is that Curriculum Development is not an uncomplicated process.  It is context dependant and it aims to ensure that children acquire knowledge, skills and values that makes them independent thinkers.  The body of knowledge that is developed and engaged with students has to take cognizance of the context and its demands.  It has to create the conditions for learners to understand who, where and what they are in localized contexts that is situated within the broader universal environment.  It should have a secular and a spiritual dimension that allows students to read the political, economic, social and personal world.  It is an empowerment tool that offers learners the opportunity to interact successfully with the environment.  Curriculum Development is not a narrowly defined process, it is a broad, complex and dynamic engagement with the world moving rapidly from the known to the unknown.  It must have the power to light a fire under learners giving them the inspiration to have a thirst for knowledge and learning.

It is always good at the beginning of a process to start by reflecting on your own experience.
