QMS internal audit also known as QMS operational plan.this will be a long lasting process from the beginning of the study to the completion.so the main tool which I believe is making QMS operational plan and ensure each stage of study research conducted according to the standard operational procedures/protocols/and guidelines.Any deviation, specify the violation and give audit reports to take corrective actions.

Quality audits are typically performed at predefined time intervals and ensure that the institution has clearly defined internal system monitoring procedures linked to effective action.
This can help determine if the organization complies with the defined quality system processes and can involve procedural or results-based assessment criteria.
Internal quality audits are essential for a proactive approach to ensure corporate readiness for an outside audit and also to identify any potential quality gaps.
An internal audit is often conducted within a company's quality management system (QMS) and serves to establish how much control the business has over its respective functions.
Preparing a checklist in advance helps provide guidance for the internal audit.
