A fourth party logistics (4PL or FPL) provider is primarily coordinator of other supply chain partners through the ownership and maintenance of information systems. This is differentiated from third party logistics providers that provide physical handling and or transportation of goods.

Arrangement in which a firm contracts out its logistical operations to two or more specialist firms(the third party logistics ) and hires another specialist firm (the fourth party) to coordinate the activities of the third parties 

When the operations of3PL are wide in functionality another party  is invoked to coordinate the functionaly and the links between the activities for the3PL. this help is usualy offered in technology support and systems and also to save the cost of a3PL in case it dosent have the expertise or the technology to do so.
