as we all know that solar roads are the future of a cheap electricity in all over the world but how can we construct such roads that could bear traffic weight and should return us the investment in number of years?
Why make solar roadways? all the dirt and loads make it costly to built, put them aside of the road, use them as described for everything electrical that is needed and the plus is energy.
Roofs of buildings are more interesting I think
It's doable but it takes will and investments.
Please watch
In my opinion, we can use solar panels in powering up road lamp posts/traffic & directional signages, cctv/radars, parking ticket booths, and road sensors to support hybrid self-driving cars.
I agree with all the answers..thank you
solar panels are made of solar cells connected in series so first of all we need the required voltage according to it purchase required voltage solar panel and connect it to the apparatus directly (if apparatus works on D.C. system) or if apparatus works on ac system we have to use inverter then after connect to the apparatus and if we want backup in night or foggy season use battery in parallel with solar panels.
Solar Roadways Incorporated is a startup company based in Sandpoint, Idaho, that is developing solar powered road panels to form a smart highway. Their technology combines a transparent driving surface with underlying solar cells, electronics and sensors to act as a solar array with programmable capability. Solar Roadways Inc is working to develop and commercially produce road panels which are made from recycled materials and incorporate photovoltaic cells.
We can use solar street lighting to light the way , moreover we can use some of rigid panels in the road ground .
this is practical but still need a lot of research and product development and years of study on seasonal effects ,fading prevention ,long lasting of clarity ,material resistance against load and friction etc
in my point of view its a more practical and better idea then the road side panels so will never need the additional space .also if the road surface can be developed (level and evenness ) or cell boundaries can be harden to lift the share the load .
also it will be better solution for the induction chargeable cars so at the same time the energy can be produced and consumed .
if the traffic is equipped with the brushing system to keep the panels ,clean.
so we will have power source for the vehicles ,road side emergency devices ,charge stations and some nearing areas .
good idea
They envisioned replacing asphalt surfaces with structurally-engineered solar panels capable of withstanding vehicular traffic.
it is truely difficult to imagine such an investment in real life ,not because it's not possible but also because there are a number of ways to inhance roadways and involve them in the renewable energy harvest
i can't say i know all recent technologies that are working in that area but i imagine that pressure enabled energy harvest might be implemented in the street lighting .. this technology was once designed to harvest energy from pedisrains footsteps
solar panels could be installed above the roadway and above parking lots to shed shadow
