The peaking is the adjustment and checking for the roundness and the curvature of the shell plates around the vertical joints and its done befor and after welding process, and about the banding is the adjustment and checking the straightness and verticality for the shell plates around horizontal joint (between shell courses) and as the same its done befor and after welding .
Peaking & banding is nothing but the profile of the tank i.e while erecting the shell plates the curvature to be maintained. The shell plates rolled to a radius to be maintained till the welding of joints completed. For this purpose only the curvature of joints are checked. For vertical joints of tank curvature is called as Peaking. For Horizontal joints it is called a Banding. Banding is also called straightness
Peaking as an inspection point of view we check after the welding of Vertical joint to find the extend of distortion happened after welding. It has a tolerance of +/- mm.
Banding as an inspection point of view we check after the welding of Banding joint to find the extend of distortion happened after welding. It has a tolerance of +/- mm.
We use Sweep Board to check peaking and banding which is fabricated using plywood or steel with one side having curvature with diameter of tank for checking peaking and other with straight face for checking Banding.
peaking & banding are the important parameters to be checked while contructing a tank because circularity &verticality is checked but at the same time on the tank weld joints peaking & banding are checked to maintain the profile and to avoid local bucking at weld joints
Peaking and Banding means checking the distortion of vertical and horizontal joints with a 900 mm sweep board. According to the API 650 the tolerance is a +/- 13 mm.
Peaking as referred as vertical Distortion and banding is refereed as horizontal distortion . Both are measured in Vertical and Horizontal joints respectively with a 900mm sweep board. The tolerance is +/- 13mm.
