petrol engines are known as si engines i.e. spark ignition engines so spark plug is used in it.

diesel engines are known as ci engines i.e. compression ignition engines it ignites the fuel with the help of compression energy.

Difference Between Diesel Engine and Petrol Engine:

1. The major difference between diesel and petrol is the way these explosions happen. In a petrol engine, fuel is mixed with air, compressed by pistons and ignited by sparks from spark plugs. In a diesel engine, however, the air is compressed first, and then the fuel is injected

2. Diesel Engine work on diesel Cycle while Petrol Engine work on Otto Cycle

3. Diesel Engine is more efficient as compared to petrol engine almost1.5 % more efficient v/s petrol

1. TYPE OF FUEL . EACH FUEL HAS A DIFFERENT HEAT VALUE OR CALORIFIC VALUE.2.SINCE EACH FUEL HAS A DIFFERENT FLASH POINT ,THE METHOD USED TO IGNITE THE FUEL IS DIFFERENT AND MORE COMPLEX . GASOLINE  ARE IGNITED BY A SPARK  AND DIESEL ENGINES ARE IGNITED BY HEAT FROM COMPRESSING THE AIR IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER ..

Diesel engine

1. It uses Diesel fuel

2. Compression Ignition (The Compressed air Injected by fuel)

3. Use injection pump and injection Nozzle

3.it is Preferable for both light and heavy duty Vehicles

Petrol Engine

1. Spark ignition (The Compressed air fuel mixture injected by Spark)

2. Use Benzine

3.It has Carburetor, Spark plug, distributor and other electrical systems

4. Appropriate for Light duty Vehicles
