Start3ds max.
From File menu select Import. The Select File to Import dialog box appears [Figure2].
From Files of type list select AutoCAD (*.DWG).
Locate and open3d_house.dwg. The DWG Import dialog box appears [Figure3].
Here you may select any of the options as the scene is empty. Click OK. The Import AutoCAD DWG File dialog box appears [Figure4].
Make sure that Layer is selected in Derive Objects By section [Figure4]. Click OK. The model appears in viewports [Figure5].
Press Ctrl+W to expand the Perspective view (In max4 press w only).

you can import directly from max.2 options
go to file. search for import option.
then you can select file type to import. two types legacy autocad or just autocad.
both have diffrent options.
durring importing u can easily select how to import the objects. its very easy
