Actually, it all depends on how you look at a study material - and I mean any material.  If you think you can get something from it, you will. But, even if it is unrelated to writing you still can learn from it, if you are willing and open to what the material says/teaches.  If you are still a beginner, I suggest you start by learning sentence and paragraph construction.  That's basic.
