well, as an MBA holder, I would encourage getting an MBA degree for advancing to senior positions, but, a project manager will mainly need to be qualified in Project Management, and need to have the basic understanding about a project, hence, if we are having an engineering project, a project manager is preferred to have some engineering background (although not essential), and have engineers in the team to be able to implement.
