Training materials development needs a lot of experience theoretical and practical.

It should be tailored specifically to the intended use, if it is going to be presented to one kind (job specific trainees with same nature of work) or general criteria to give a general procedures to (different background and jobs nature) in such for this case general occupational health and safety or fire drill and exits.

In most cases it’s better to refer to specific professional related organization as they provide useful information and the most important things to consider is the Organization specific requirements for such a training and same referring to Human capital department to align the training material to their intended plans and to have the minimum required information to be inside the training material.

Also, it’s important to seek the (Regulatory/Legislation/Governmental/Standardization) bodies regarding the specific training materials.

In my opinion a simple process to create training material would look like:

1. setup the target: what do you want to achieve by the end of the training? what participants should be able to  do by the end of the training?

2. decide about what kind of state you want to influence/set on participants: how participants should feel during the training process (i.e. curious, happy, excited, introspective etc.)?

3. decide about the kind of activities would create the desired sequence of states (icebreakers, theory sessions, exercises, simulations, films etc.)

4. fill in the activities with the appropriate content

5. document the entire process for review and improvement
