absolutely not the key of success as a sales man is getting the customer trust by being honest and advising him with the best benefits would he got when dealing with you then when the customer feel that you are in his side that mean earn the customer himself what mean that you get a lot of sales bills from him not just one by lie on him.

sometimes they have to fake the truth but we cant call it a lie

No, when your product or service is competitive and is according to the needs and requirements of the customers, then you don't have to lie.
If one will lie and is able to sell its product to the customer, and if the product falls below the expectation level of the customer, then it will result in negative word of mouth which will hamper the sales prospect in longer run.

I personally think before joining any sales department you should know well about the product..becouse once you enter in a company ..your first piority should be the company's benifit and for that if you have to lie GO FOR IT...and lying is a very harsh word you only hav to convence people for your sale...:) SALES is all about playing with words and minds..:) Being sincere with your clients and always recommend the best thing of your own company.:D

This is a very subjective question, which completely depends on the situation. There maybe instances, wherein a sales person is expected to lie, but having said that, it should very well be demarkated as to what level of that lie is not harming the organization and what is. More or less, the sales at the end of the day will be dependant on the selling skills of the salesman and the quality of the products, but long lasting relationships are based on trust. Hence, to build those relationships, it would not be wise to lie, but to be honest, which will win you long term Clients / Businesses and not just short terms accomplishments.
