if its a (brick & porter) startup; i would say a marketing founder.
if its a (technological) startup; I would go a technical founder.
see its all about the type of the business and the industry you will be operating in.
but among all; the founder need to have a vision and a reason to believe that he will succeed.
Thank you for your invite. THough both the technical and marketing founder are important for the project and in my opinion marketing founder is more important. There are many success stories that inspired me to make my suggestion. For example ;
1. Investor builds a beautiful resort on an remote island ( he will be referred to as technical founder ) but it may not get popular unless it is marketed skillfully.
2. A ecommerce business now world renowned brand had no budget at the start up stage. Intelligent marketer made blogs, developed followers and raised capital through crowd funding, without a innovative marketer the global status of the company could have never been achieved.
World is full of intelligent and innovative people with unique technical ideas but they do not know how to market, their aspirations die because of lack of resources to launch only a strong marketer arm can help them get their projects take off.
Vision without vision you could have a firm without soul (vision is closely related to business model that actually is the success key) ...technical expertise you can find easily in the labour market.
Technical Founder is important for start up, marketing expertise can be brought.
Ideally the founder, should have some marketing basis.
And I totally agree with Ahmed Zawawi when saying that founder must have a vision and belief in his success.
