The main difference between the two is convergence time. RIP-2 considers link as failed after180 seconds not receiving updates from it, compared to40 seconds for OSPF. And OSPF sends route updates immediately in contrast to RIP which sends updates every30 seconds.

The use of routing protocols are always subjected to the requirement of company.Eventhough RIPv2 uses VLSM and belongs to distance vector routing protocol. It supports i think15 hops.Meanwhile OSPF which belong to link state routing protocol.large no: of hops supported. Can Partition network based on areas.Fast convergence.Maintains three tables.etc..OSPF BETTER.

The both are classless routing protocol.

RIPv2 use hope to weight the link however OSPF use formula to calculate the link weight.
