I have hired them in the past and do consider them whenever i have a suitable position. For me they have a natural inclination towards human resources and i feel they will be a good fit for the following activitties-

1. Training and Development: Since they bring the understanding of human behaviors and patterns, they will prove valuable in designing relevant content, delivering training using the right approach and engaging trainees during their initial stay with the organization.

2. Research and Analysis - I have used their expertise a lot for research purposes. Their knowledge brings in the right thought process to understand and analyze details around job seeker drivers and behaviors and any other similar internal or external research.

3. Recruitment and Selection - Getting the right mix of employees is priority for any organization. They can be involved to understand the candidates' behavior before selection through a variety of methodologies and even spending time with them to analyze their fitment. They can also prove beneficial in assessing the right tools and techniques to hire quality professionals - We all know  the impact of a bad hire?

I've hired them in the past too, that too from very good institutes. But honestly, I did not find anything really special. Just like any other fresher, they need grooming, hand-holding, coaching to really bloom into excellent professionals. Yes, they do have some basic understanding about human psychology, but it's still bookish, and not of much use to resolve complex problems in an organization.

I'd recommend that we look for the following when we recruit for a HR team:

1. Excellent communication skills, high energy levels and high on intelligence

2. An ability to understand human aspects - feelings, emotions, expectations, etc.

3. A smiling, pleasant personality - which helps him easily bond with people, win friends, etc.

This is the combination that can be groomed into a good HR person, not just a degree from anywhere - even top universities included!!!

In today's scenario psychology is major , now everyone is working for organizational excellence, to understand human resource better and make them comfortable and happy at the workplace , it is required to have better understanding about their feeling, emotions, work-life balance etc.

Benefits of hiring HR Person with Psychology will be:

1. Talent Management (Best fit to the job)

2. Individualization (taking care of each human resource of the organization)

3. Pleasant Personality ( be a part of team , bonded with employees )

It will be useful in monitoring the employees' activities (like finding out the gossips, employees who are passing negative images about the company etc.,;

It will help in employee retention and

It will help in employee relations (to work on employee investigations, code of conduct issues, compliance issues etc., )

In my view this qualification is an added advantage ,but not essential for an HR function, as HR is too wide. It has Talent acquisition, Talent management, HR Services, HR BP/Generalist, Total rewards, Employee relations, Global mobility, Learning & Development etc., For an HR employee, continuos learning and development in various HR functions are always required.
