if you lookinf for a free software and stand alone applecation and work in linux you can use Gimp

but if you looking for Expert grapic solution you must use photoshop the other software that continue it from adobe

Even if you've never worked with images on your computer, you may have heard of Photoshop. Available for both Windows and Mac, Adobe Photoshop is an extremely powerful application that's used by many professional photographers and designers. You can use Photoshop for almost any kind of image editing, such as touching up photos, creating high-quality graphics, and much, much more.

Never heard a gimp software before but anyway my answer is adobe photoshop and here adobe photosop has a latest version cc2015 everything is synchronize from mobile phone then you can sync to continue on mac or pc  and here's the new features added "device preview", "Adobe Stock", on layers there is new artboard layers, quick export as png. so for me still the adobe photoshop is the best..

I prefer photoshop CC; it helps me exporting the css rules.

I use both, I actually get more comfortable using photoshop, maybe because i am new to gimp and I am not familiar with its shortcuts.

Both have their own properties but in my opinion Adobe Photoshop is better. Its user friendly, easy to use and have powerful features. Due to its capacity and popularity I recommend Adobe Photoshop.

Most of the graphic designers are using Adobe Photoshop ... And I think it's more Professional to use in designs ... as for gimp I used it for a little time it has the same tools as photoshop and Illustrator but it's harder to use.

It depends on how you define 'better.' If you define it as 'free,' then Gimp is better. If you define 'better' as 'outstanding features,' then Photoshop is better.

GIMP is excellent, of course it works!!! It can do99% of the same stuff photoshop can do. Just make sure you download it only from the links provided at the official website: http://www.gimp.org The major difference between GIMP and Photoshop is that Photoshop can edit images with higher bit depths than GIMP. If you have no idea what bit depths are, then you are unlikely to need this feature. Plus there are ways to get round this with GIMP by using other third party plug-ins in any case.

I'm not expert using gimp or photoshop, but according to my humble experiece using two of them I can say:- Gimp is free and open source and easy to learn and use.- photoshop is very powerfull and has very advanced features and filters which are hard to find in GIMP except it is licenced and not free.
