As far as software, you can get in some good drawing practice with the application that probably already came with your computer, such as Windows Paint or equivalent. It's not capable of much subtlety in shading and coloring, but it will give you a chance to get used to your digital tablet. The tablet will work much like a mouse in that you can click, double click, click and drag, right click, etc.
When you are ready for some serious digital work, you can do very well with an entry level application like Adobe Photoshop Elements. the full version Photoshop,

But for the3D Purpose I use3D Studio Max with V-Ray Plugin.
