Straight through : These cables have a straight connections like1-1,2-2,3-3,4-4,5-5,6-6,7-7,8-8

These are used to connect host-client eg. Computers, printers and other client devices are connected to router switches, hubs etc.

Cross Over : these are simmilar to straight through but the connections are like

1-3,2-6,3-1,4-7,5-8,6-2,7-4,8-5

These are used to connect hosts to each other eg,2 computers, computer to router etc

Roll Over : these cables are connected to opposite pins like

1-8,2-7,3-6,4-5,5-4,6-3,7-2,8-1

These are used to connect to a devices console port to make programming changes.
