Important qualities for a good salesman are given below:
(1) Physical Qualities:
A salesman can be called a good salesman if he is physically fit in all respect. Physical fitness is the greatest asset of a salesman. Physical qualities include personality, stamina, health, and tolerance.
First of all, he should possess robust personality. He should have an attractive and smiling face full of self- confidence. His dress must be appealing, way of talking must be convincing and his outlook should be healthy.
Secondly, he must be full of stamina and not the one who feels tired after doing a little amount of work.
Thirdly, he must be the owner of healthy physique and lastly, he must have the quality of tolerance. During the course of his work, he has to come in contact with persons of different nature.
He must have so much tolerance as to listen everybody patiently. He must not, in any case, lose temper because of indecent language used by any person.
(2) Mental Qualities:
He must have adequate mental qualities. These include mainly: skill, mental alertness, sharp memory, initiative, imagination and self-confidence.
That salesman will turn out to be a successful salesman who possesses all these qualities. A salesman endowed with mental qualities alone can grasp quickly the psychology of the customers and conducts himself accordingly.
(3) Social Qualities:
Since a salesman has to deal with persons living in the society, so he must also possess social qualities. These mainly include: sociability, tact, sound character, sweet nature, etc. Sociability refers to the salesman being sociable. In other words, he must be amiable.
As a tactful salesman, he must have qualities to adjust himself according to the situation. Truthfulness and honesty are the virtues that add luster to his character. Customers believe a salesman with sound character and like to deal with him.
A sweet natured person is one who is soft-spoken, gives respect to others and is jocular. These qualities in a salesman endear him to the customers.
(4) Vocational Qualities:
Qualities which are directly concerned with the functioning of a salesman are known as vocational qualities. It includes mainly: knowledge of product, knowledge of competitive products, training, and aptitude. He must have extensive knowledge with regard to the manufacturing process of his product, method of its use, its advantages, etc.
Besides he must know how many competitive products are available in the market. He should enter the market after getting complete training of salesmanship. That salesman alone can succeed who has an abiding aptitude for the job.
Negotiation skills are the key elements for closing sales deal but if you see the modern day sales cycle (Social Networking, Engage, Educate & Sales Closing) you will find the negotiation as a last step. Therefore in such a competitive world having grip on a single thing will not make you win the deal. It is recommended that your sales staff should be a social butterfly, well trained, have ample product knowledge, know how to create need, last but not the least should have negotiation skills in order to close the deal

Posture, Body language and Positive attitude will be a great ADD
Yes .Majority of the sales counts with bargaining skills .Other then that hardworking ,personality counts as well
It all comes to personality and if people like us they will buy from us or at least tell us what is the reason or objection to why they can't buy from us so will have an opportunity to overcome their objection. Having good negotiation skills is important but we must not forget that most people buy things based on emotions so if we can make them feel good and happy about the purchase then we will always be a successful salesperson.
Negotiation is a part of the sales process.
Yes it is necessary to acquire the skills. However, you need to acquire complete sales management skill to close a deal.
Key Account Management is a good topic to start learning :)
