they are often damaged during installation by any sort of pressure on the coil fins or during cleaning if they rub the fins hard or it is bend
damage from hitting the coil during running time and installation and any time
new design coil by carrier can reduce fins damage dangerous
the fins is in between the tubes
the tubes is not circular but more Flat
The fins often damaged by washing them wrongly or leaving them without maintenance for a long time which let the dirt accumulate on them or also hitting on them which causing the fins to be bent.
The best solution to solve the problem is cleaning them then make fins comping by HVAC technician.
The two most common causes are lawn mowers and installers or service people. High-pressure water used to clean the coil may also damage the fins. Damaged fins reduce airflow and heat transfer, adversely affecting system performance, comfort and costs. Look at as much of the fin surface as you can. If the coil is clogged, remove some of the dirt to determine if the fins are bent. Straightening the fins is possible, but leave it to a service person.
mainly by humidity they undergo chemical reaction with air and looses its elasticity and in turn break away easily
During installation
Humid weather (copper - steel fins)
Poor quality of water/ untreated water/dirt water if allowed in condecer fins, will creat scaling in fins, accordingly fins dia will reduce, heartransfer will be less, results low vacuum in Turbine. So proper water treatmen is also one of the most important reason of fins damage.
I also agree will all Gentelmans answers of Fins damage in Condencer.
