Humans are social animals.  In fact the society in which we live make us happy or sad.  If we consider the workplace as an extension of society, we have a small social gathering at the workplace.  a group of satisfied employees who pleasantly interact with each other and work in a team to accomplish organizational goals make the workplace a better place to live (remember one third of your fruitful adult life you spend at the office!).  in order to ensure a pleasant work place the management has a bigger role to play.  effective and transparent hr management is the key.  in the mini society that we have at the workplace every individual should know what is expected out of him and what are his roles.  thus effective communication also has a vital role because it is communication that makes people aware of what is expected and what are the roles they are requireed to play.

mutual respect and trust also have a vital roles to play in making the office a pleasant place to live.  some managers make the mistake of dividing the employees to elicit performance report on others without he doing the work of evaluating performance - these are negative management styles which ultimately spoil the culture of the organization and eventually leads to conflicts with no fruitful outcome.

other issues that need consideration by the management are the office layout, quality air and lighting, transparent hr policies, realistic task allotment, etc.  there should be ample room for development of grapevine for interaction between employees.
