How can i become a respected and valued member in the fellow worker team in a new job , while they are older than me and have more experience?

To be a valued member, learn and adobt to the environment because you have to work hard to acquire their assessment.used their experiences and asked their opinions in how to perform varios tasks .

First & foremost , respect your seniors if you want to be respected. Respect their point of view seeking to understand and conduct in a professional manner even if it is not reciprocated. Say only what you can do. Be honest and take the ownership of errors & omissions and correct promptly.

Being a consultant was not an easy path, I have gone through the following: 

  • Different companies (size and budget - they have money to burn)

  • Different and many projects

  • Used different technologies

  • Worked for different managers and directors

  • Taking on different roles

  • Different size of team members

  • Different production rate and expectations

  • ... the list is not small

The main answers would be:

  1. Listen which is an art and science including body language

  2. Be a student first and be patient

  3. Put extra hours to catch up with learning curve and show your interested and care about the job

  4. Do not try to reinvent the wheel - if it works do not fix it

  5. As for help you need help

  6. Search your job, the internet and anything related to your job and create a million questions, try to find answers to these questions and whatever you cannot answer ask your team

  7. Get your boss involve in any issues you have after you tries to handle it

  8. Ask friends if they can help outside the job without risking security, company policies

  9. ... I am sure there are more tips to such path
