Ya, I do agree that fleet management is a tactful job which requires the diversified set of skills to manage the fleet. I believe a fleet manager must have the leadership quality who can persuade  and motivate the team . Same time he should have the sound understanding about all factors like demand and supply, seasonality ( peak &lean season) which affect the market dynamics.

The understanding of freight costing is also essential for a fleet manager so that ha can rightly trade off between business and profit margin.

 Fleet manager is person who have to deal with large spectrum of people right from driver to CEO therefore he should be flexible and practical in his approach.

Some how he is the face of the company for customers and internal employee like drivers / supervisors and co-coordinator.
