Define insider trading and why it is illegal?

An insider means a person or an organisation who has access to company information, so if such a person make a transaction in the market prior to a particular information made public to gain un ethically and illegally its known as insider trading. It eludes the common man's chance to make benefit in the market and not only that it can harm also very badly so it is illegal.
