5 fsmo roles

The operations master roles, also known as flexible single master operations (FSMO) roles, perform specific tasks within a domain. The five FSMO roles are:

Relative ID (RID) Master

PDC Emulator

• Schema Master - Responsible to maintain update directory schema.
• Domain Naming Master - Responsible to maintain Domain name space in AD.
• Primary Domain Controller (PDC) - Responsible for various functions (Password change replication, Time synchronisation, supporting NT4 domain)
• Relative ID (RID) - Responsible to manage RID pool and the RID of objects in domain.
•  Inrastructure - Responsible to keep updated information of Domain references of AD objects

1.Schema master role: Contains information of all classes and attributes of a forest

2.Domain naming master: It is important while adding/removing a domain in a forest.

3.Primay domain controller: Required to sync the time between domain controllers and other computers.

4.RID Master role: Distributes RID's to other Domain controllers.

5.Infrastructure role: required for updating group membership updates and other references of objects from one domain to another.
