Acrisis can strike any company, anytime, anywhere and advanced planning is the key to survival.

Here are some critical steps to crisi management that can be considered for any company:

1)Have a plan:every plan begins with clear objectives to protect any individual who may be endangered by it and ensure the key audiences are kept informed and the organization survives.

2)Identify a spokesperson: to ensure the company speaks with one voice and delivers a clear consistent message, a spokesperson must be identified as well as prepared to answer media questions and participate in interviews.

3) Be honest and open: being as open and transparent as possible can help stop rumors and defuse a potential media frenzy. this transparency must be projected through all communications channels, news interviews, social media, internal announcement.

4)Keep employees informed: this will ensure that business continues to flow as smoothly as possible and minimise internal rumors mill that may lead to employees posting false reports on social media.

5)Communicate with customers and suppliers: so that they dont get the information from social media, let it be part of the crisis communication plan to include customers and suppliers and how they will be regulary updated during the event.

6) Update early and often: issue summary statements, updated action plans and new developments as early as possible for its better to over communicate than to allow rumors to fill the void.

7)Dont forget social media: be sure to establish a social media team to monitor, post and react to social media activity throughout the crisis.

Workplace conflict is inevitable. Nobody is perfect. Misunderstandings happen. We all make mistakes. Light-hearted banter can escalate into bickering. Small disputes can grow out of all proportion and result in costly and lengthy tribunals. ‘Strained relationships can be a distraction for those involved and for those around them,’ says lawyer and mediation expert Dr Frank Hanna, ‘and workplace conflict is one of the most time and money-draining issues facing businesses.’ So if you do become involved in some sort of conflict at work, resolving it in a timely and appropriate manner is in your best interests, as well as those of your employer and your colleagues. Unfortunately, this can be easier said than done: we are not all blessed with the personality or interpersonal skills required to diffuse all difficult encounters. Fortunately, we can all benefit from applying some tried and tested coping mechanisms.
